Anna Calvi “Desire”
So my new obsession is singer/guitarist Anna Calvi. There’s something intoxicating and old school about her, hard to squash into a pithy soundbite. Take this song: This could be a track off an eighties Springsteen album, though it’s…through a glass darkly, for lack of a better term? Then once in a while there’s the teeniest tinge of Diamanda Galas? I know. It’s insane. The entire album is rewarding, though. She traffics in the same arty melodrama Nick Cave does and that is right up my alley, so. Highly recommended.
